Viral Social Media Post Displays That Harris Won in All States That Do Not Require ID to Vote

Elon Musk post a graphic from a Newsmax segment from the show “Culture Clash” indicating the ID requirements in the states that Kamala Harris won.

Sunday November 10, 2024, 5:45PM MST A viral post is going around with a slight implication that the states that Vice President Kamala Harris won during this year’s presidential election were only in states that did not require ID to vote.

Elon Musk’s verified X (formerly twitter) account posted the post above earlier today with the caption “Must be a coincidence (rolling eyes emoji) which may give the impression that there may be more to those election results in states Harris won.

The NCSL, the National Conference of State Legislatures, a foundation that gathers information for legislatures in states, territories, and commonwealths of the United States,  there are 36 states that request or require voters to show some form of identification when voting. The other 14 states and D.C. use “other methods” of voters such as signature verification, albeit an ID may not be required. Pennsylvania and Nevada, states that Donald J. Trump did win, does not require an ID.

The post, which shows a picture of the news network Newsmax presenting a graphic on the states that require ID and those that do not. The Newsmax segment did run on the news network, but briefly on a show called “Culture Clash,” which runs on a subscription base of Newsmax.

Elon Musk has over 204 million followers on his X platform and this tweet was reposted 110,000 times with over 615,000 likes and viewed over 51 million times, helping to propel to a very strong viral moment.

Though this is a fact-based post, it is easy to see how it can be misconstrued into something more or look as if there could have been some type of unfair play in the recent election. Musk who may serve in some capacity within the Trump administration according to Forbes, is also one of Trump’s biggest campaign contributors, donating over a total 118 million dollars to the Trump campaign and pro-trump groups, some of this according to the filings within the US Federal Election Commission.

X user Terrence Simpson re-tweeted the post from Elon said, “It’s not a “coincidence”, and there is most certainly a “theme” which is that all these states employ election fraud in order to run their states like a socialist republics. It’s time to reclaim these states and make them part of America again.”

In what is being hailed as an historic win for Trump, even with sweeping almost all the swing states as well, the rhetoric of unfair or unjust elections are still ringing, just as they did when Trump lost the presidential election in 2020.
